Dr James McLean is a locally and internationally trained orthopaedic surgeon based in Adelaide, South Australia, specialising in shoulder and upper limb surgery. He graduated from the University of Adelaide Medical School in 2004 and completed nine years of postgraduate surgical training, including two competitive sub-specialty clinical fellowships: a Shoulder & Elbow Fellowship at Addenbrooke’s Hospital / University of Cambridge (UK), and an Upper Limb & Hand Fellowship at St Paul’s Hospital / University of British Columbia (Canada). Dr McLean has particular expertise in arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery and joint replacement of the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand. He holds an academic appointment as Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Adelaide and serves as the Head of Unit, Hand & Upper Limb Unit, at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. Dr McLean is an active member of the Shoulder & Elbow Society of Australia and the Australian Hand Surgery Society, and has been awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (2019) and Master of Surgery for his contributions to orthopaedic research.
